Confined Space Entry & Rescue
Confined Space Entry & Rescue training prepares the participants to work safely in confined spaces. Topics will include hazards of confined spaces, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, entry preparation, working in confined spaces, post entry and de-brief. Each participant will take part in at least four man-down exercises, one in a simulator (weather permitting) and one in a darkened environment.

Respirator Fit Testing
Each participant will be instructed in the proper care and use of a cartridge type mask and self contained breasting apparatus, as well as fitted for size. The Occupational Health & Safety Regulations state in Section 98 “An employer shall ensure respiratory protective equipment who efficacy depends upon an effective seal is correctly fitted to provide for an effective face seal.”

Defensive Driving
This Canada Safety Council program is recognized as a requirement for many companies in order to comply with current labour and training legislation. The use of this program can have a direct impact on reducing operating costs and employee time-loss. The key elements of this program are the importance of driver attitude, avoiding collisions, alcohol and drugs as well as principles and foundations. Upon successful completion participants will qualify for a 3 point demerit reduction.

Safety Program Development
Safe-Net staff will guide and assist you in developing a Safety Program. Through a safety program you demonstrate your company’s commitment to the safety of employees, visitors and the environment surrounding your worksite. Your safety program is also the beginning of your application for a “Certificate of Recognition” (COR).

Enform Safety Program Auditor
Elaine is a certified Safety Auditors through Enform (formerly the Petroleum Industry Training Service). External audits are available and are completed through an interview, observation and review of documentation process. Upon approval through a review Committee at Enform, application can be made to Alberta Labor for a “Certificate of Recognition” (COR).

St. John Ambulance Emergency First Aid with Automated External Defibrillator CPR “A”
This course covers the principles and practices of first aid. Compulsory exercises will cover choking, one rescuer CPR, bleeding control first aid practices for shock and medical conditions.

Fall Protection Awareness
Upon successful completion of this course participants will understand the physics of falling, calculating fall clearance distance and the principles of fall arrest systems. Topics will include harness groups and fitting, equipment inspection, rescue after a fall as well as Occupational Health & Safety Code.

St. John Ambulance First Aid in Childcare
This course is designed for professional child care workers but also great for parents and all caregivers. Course includes infant, child and adult resuscitation and is required by Day Care/Day Home licensing.

Gas Testing / Nitrogen Safety
Upon successful completion of the Gas Testing course participants will be able to demonstrate an understanding of explosive mixtures and the ability to select the appropriate test equipment for the job/type of gas. Each participant will have a clear understanding of the operation and limitations of the equipment. The Nitrogen tag will cover where nitrogen is found, how it is used and how to recognize it. Also covered are the health hazards of nitrogen and how to reduce its risks.

St. John St John Ambulance Standard First Aid Recertification
Participants can recertify in Alberta for standard level first aid as long as the following criteria are met:

  • They hold a current St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid certificate
  • Last course attended was not a recertification
  • Minimum of 70% scored on written portion of course. Please note oral exams are not permitted for recertification.

H2S Alive
This course will give participants knowledge on working in or around hydrogen sulphide. The course will cover the physical properties and health hazards of H2S, how to protect yourself and basic rescue techniques. Each participant will be required to operate a detector tube device, a self-contained breathing apparatus in a rescue situation and perform a CPR practical.

St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid with Automated External Defibrillator CPR “C”
This course covers the principles and practices of first aid to the standard level. Compulsory exercises will cover choking, adult, child and infant CPR, two person rescuer, bleeding control, immobilizing fractures and first aid practices for shock. Additional modules will cover burns, eye injuries, head, spinal and pelvic injuries, environmental illness and medical conditions. Available in French and English.

Heart & Stroke Foundation Basic Rescuer
With the knowledge and skills you learn in this course you can save a life. You will learn the skills of CPR for causalities of all ages and how to use and automated external defibrillator (AED). You will learn how to relieve a choking obstruction. The skills you learn in this course will enable you to recognize emergencies such as sudden cardiac arrest and how to respond to them.

St. John Ambulance What Every Babysitter Should Know
This course is designed for youths age 11 years and older who want to baby-sit or care for siblings. It covers the general principles of caring for infants and small children as well as teaches basic skills for dealing with emergency situations.

Industrial Audiometric Testing
George Lehocky, OHC and Elaine Harbarenko, OHC are certified Occupational Hearing Conservationists and are qualified to perform industrial audiograms for adults, following the guidelines established in the Alberta Workplace Health and Safety Regulations, Part 16 Noise Exposure.

Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)
TDG is designed for individuals responsible for or needing information on the handling and transporting of dangerous goods. Instruction will include an overview of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Acts and Regulations, classification, documentation, safety marks, accidental release of a product and emergency response requirements will be covered.

Propane Dispensing for Cylinders and/or Vehicles
Designed for workers that are responsible for filling propane cylinders or propane vehicles. Courses are designed with a theory component followed by a practical hands-on training session.

Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
WHMIS is designed for all individuals who might work with or around hazardous materials. Instruction will cover employer and worker responsibilities, the use of Material Safety Data Sheets and the proper labeling of hazardous materials. Available in French and English.
